6-8 Cody O’Connell offered by Washington St.

( Cody O’Connell 6-8 350 So. OL) Wenatchee

One of the region’s top offensive lineman got his first major offer on Saturday from Washington St, and Cody O’Connell (6-8 350 Jr. OL Wenatchee) is just getting started. The big man from Eastern Washington is considered maybe the top O lineman in the state as he showed up at our Elite event last week, and looked extremely quick and athletic for any kid carrying that much size.

O’Connell carries a quiet demeanor and looks the part on every level. This weekend’s WSU Junior Day proved very successful for Cody as he says, ” I liked the campus and the offensive scheme that they ran, but other then that I really wasn’t expecting to get an offer”. He continued, ” I thought it was just going to be a see the campus and meet the coaches type thing but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.”

Cody has been on a lot of college boards simply due to his size, but the fact that the kid can run and is athletic has really changed things.

Highly respected former D1 athlete John Sirmon is a name many are familiar with, as he is the father of highly touted freshman linebacker Cy Sirmon who plays for Wenatchee. John says, “his maturity level is night and day compared to last season and he has really figured out what he is capable of. He also added, ” His footwork has improved a lot, and I think Cody has the potential to do very well at the highest level of football”.

We expect a lot of movement on him as this early off season continues as Mike Leach and his guys aren’t messing around. The Cougars did a very smart thing and showed O’Connell that they respected his game and Pac 12 type ability.

O’Connell will lead a group of Panthers that finished the season (5-5) losing multiple close ball games to legit teams. He plans on leading a line that will block for one of the nation’s fastest sophomores in Isaiah Brandt- Sims (6-0 175 So. ATH) who won the Washington State High School 100 & 200 Meter State Championship as a freshman.

We will keep you updated on the progress of O’Connell, as he’s an outstanding kid and will have a plethora of options before he is done.
