One of the top kickers in the nation, Mount Si (Snoqualmie, Wa.) K/P Cameron Van Winkle, received his first college scholarship offer this past week and he updated Northwest Elite Index over the holiday weekend.

“Last Sunday, Washington State offered me,” Van Winkle told NEI. “Coach (Eric) Russell is the coach that offered. He said they like the way I approach things and they were excited about me.”

In addition to his offer from the Cougars, Van Winkle has also had plenty of other schools from the Pac 12 calling and several want to see him kick in person this summer.

“Oregon likes me and they said they want to see me kick for them at their camp,” Van Winkle said. “Cal has been talking to me a lot too and Arizona State has been contacting me.

“I didn’t really think about committing because I want to see what other schools have to say and I really want to take some visits before I make my decision, but the Washington State offer is great and I’m pretty excited about it.”

As one of the top prep kickers, not only on the West Coast, but likely the entire nation this season, Van Winkle who has a huge leg, but also the accuracy to go along with it.

“The longest I’ve hit from in a game is 49, but in practice the longest I’ve hit from is 63,” Van Winkle told Scout.com during the fall. “I barely missed a 57-yarder against Mercer Island, so I have the leg to get it there, but it all depends on how you hit it and I just didn’t get all of it that night.”

This past season Van Winkle, who is also a star on the Mount Si soccer team, hit 16 of his 18 field goal attempts while also averaging 37 yards per punt.

Van Winkle is easily the top kicker in the Northwest this year and now that he has his first offer, you could see a flood of schools trying to get in line to extend an offer.
