Regional Top Junior Athlete;Canby’s Sam Bodine

A kid who’s stock has risen as much as anybody’s over the last 7 months is Sam Bodine (6-2 205 Jr. LB/RB) out of Canby. He was able to have a good sophomore season accounting for 27 tackles and 1.5 sacks on a talented Canby team.

Bodine has jumped up our recruiting boards due his outstanding play starting with our elite events in the winter. He showed up as one of the elite sophomores in the northwest and did very well.

He projects as a backer, but could easily find himself getting a reasonable amount of carries over the next two seasons. The Cougar 2014 class is lethal, especially with the kids they have up front so expect Canby to be a force in the coming seasons.

As always the Cougars will play one of the toughest non league schedules in the state with Tigard and Jesuit, followed by a very tough Three Rivers League schedule.

Bodine says with no hesitation, " we want to win state and have to execute every rep in practice like its our last…We have realized that we have to much talent not to have a good season, and we play maybe the hardest schedule in the state and are super excited about that".

He continued, " Our defense has a lot of returning starters back and we will be a really good defensive team, with our offense always doing their thing"

One of the reasons Bodine is an NEI favorite is because he’s such a good character kid. When we spoke earlier he was with his church doing community work in the middle of no where just outside of Kansas City. He is a refreshingly humble individual that just loves football, and is willing to put in the work to achieve his goals.

" I want to be a teammate that everyone can look to for help, while also being a leader in the school, the community and on the football field….I want to play college football at the highest level possible and will do whatever I can to make that happen".

Bodine added, " I would like to earn first team all league and all state honors, and keep lifting hard and eating right.. I know the lord has blessed me with talent, and I am truly grateful for that and just want to do my best to stay on track and keep building ".

Sam is super quick for a backer and can also play a strong safety type role. He sticks out on the field due to his speed and physicality. He is a kid that projects to be one of the most talented juniors in the region, and we expect him to be a player of the year candidate starting this season.
