WA Top Junior Lineman Kayden
Maughan to Help Lead Chiawana
July 27, 2012 by Jordan Johnson
A kid that we will hear a lot about over the next couple season's will be junior Kayden Maughan (6-3 245 Jr. OL/DL) out of Chiawana (Pasco) in the Tri Cities. He earned 1st team all league honors as a sophomore on a team that went (8-1) before losing in the 1st round of the playoffs. Maughan is one of those kids that we noticed after his very successful sophomore season, as its extremely hard to earn such accolades at the highest classification level while still so young.
Kayden is an LDS kid that is already being recruited by a host of top schools including BYU. He is determined to go on his mission, and also looks forward to playing ball at the D1 level. He says, " BYU has been by my high school and has talked with Coach Graff". Obviously this would be a very good option for Maughan moving forward.
Many of the talented athletes that we work with down in Oregon have recently committed to BYU and we can't say enough good things about the school. The recent recruiting class is maybe the best ever out of the state with ( OR #1 WR Tanner Shipley, # 1 OL Brayden Kearsley, #1 S Dallin Leavitt ) all heading their next season. Big time pickups for the school as all three athletes have multiple D1 offers.
Chiawana loses a host of talented seniors, and will look primarily to the juniors for a big time season. Maughan is a super talented overall athlete and shows unique coordination for a big man on the basketball floor. He also sports a 4.0 GPA taking upper level AP classes and ranks in the top 5 of his class.
Maughan's intangibles are off the charts, and he can play on either side of the ball so he becomes even more valuable to different universities. You can expect high end academic institutions to be knocking down his door with where he stands academically. His ceiling is very high with size 14.5 shoes and a 6 foot 7 inch " wingspan.
His goals include getting to the Tacoma Dome with his talented teammates that he spoke very highly of. " Our class didn't lose much growing up so we are all excited to see what we can do together over the next two seasons".
You will see a host of Chiawana's younger athletes on our recruiting boards with Maughan being the top recruit. Head Coach Steve Graff will be shooting for his 4th state title with individuals such as Alex Weber, Joey Zamora, Grady Graff, Mark DeRuyter, Chandler Newell, and Isaac Mitz among others all being some of the better juniors in the entire state of Washington. The 2014 class is loaded to say the least
We look forward to following Kayden's junior season, as we consider him one of the top players in the State of Washington. He's an even a better kid then athlete, so if his teammates can follow his lead it looks like they may be in pretty good shape.
