Sandy's 6-6 Gunslinger Justin Adams
November 19, 2011 by Jordan Johnson
Sandy High School's Justin Adams (6-6 205 Jr QB) is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the Northwest for the 2013 class. Its not your typical football power but Adams is looking to change that. The junior stand out just finished up his season racking up first team all league honors for the Northwest Oregon Conference.
What makes this situation unique are the intangibles that Adams possesses. He is a three sport athlete with size, that takes his academics very seriously. He threw for almost 2500 yards and had a (28 Td/ 12 Int) ratio. He basically won the lottery when legendary coach, and former NFL quarterback Greg Barton decided to help coach at Sandy. Barton has changed more lives then could ever be counted and Adams realizes how lucky he is. "Coach works with me before and after practice, and I can't even tell you how much difference its made". Its not everyday the top football mind in the Northwest guides your high school career so Adams is very appreciative.
His 3.9 G.P.A. with full AP class load is tough especially when you add in 3 sports. He will continue playing baseball as everyone can use a 6-6 kid on the mound, but basketball is up in the air right now. His combination of size, smarts, and overall athleticism will have a variety schools inquiring about his services. "He's a worker, and does things the right way", Barton says. "I think Justin could do some big things at the next level if he stays focused and continues to work, he's a special kid".
Sandy finished 4-7, but bring a host of kids back with talent and are looking forward to next season. "We haven't had a winning season in over 14 years and have never made it past the second round of the playoffs, I would like to be a part of the team that changes that" Adams says.
Barton has been able to help Adams with his footwork which is something that any tall QB must have dialed in. His upside is through the roof as he moves forward with his career. We will see Justin at a variety of Barton events over the off season and look forward to following this young QB for years to come.
