As we continue our preview of some of the top talent in the state, we here at Northwest Elite Index have turned our attention to the southern part of the Puget Sound where Curtis (University Place, Wa.) DE Andrew Potter Maul hopes a big senior season will result in some looks from D-1 schools.
Potter Maul has outstanding size at 6'4" and 260 pounds and holds down one of the defensive end spots for Vikings. He had a solid junior season, posting 48 tackles (23 solo) to go along with six sacks.
Even with that outstanding productivity, Potter Maul admits there is still a lot for him to work on as he prepares for his final season of high school football.
"I am agile and smart and I've been working on my speed and quickness a lot, but I've really been focusing on finishing strong on every play," Potter Maul admitted. "Our coaches have really been after us to finish strong and be sure to make sure we never stop no matter what."
On the recruiting front, things have yet to really pick up for the talented senior-to-be, but he hopes a solid senior campaign earns him some offers.
"I went to a couple of camps this spring and summer, but I am still waiting to hear officially from schools," Potter Maul said. "I went to the Northwest Stars Camp at the University of Washington and I also attended the Washington State camp earlier and I felt I did really well at both of them.
"I've been hearing from schools (Stanford, Cal, Arizona and Washington State to name a few), but mainly it's just letters. I haven't been talking to them on the phone or anything."
Potter Maul and the rest of his teammates begin fall practice in the next few weeks before starting their season on August 31st against Emerald Ridge at home.
We will continue to keep track of Potter Maul's progress this season and we will update news as it happens with him.
