John Powers: 5A’s Top Senior Lineman

One of the top lineman in Oregon that is still uncommitted and looking for the right school is Sherwood big man John Powers (6-3 260 OL/DL Sr.). Powers earned first team all league and first team 5a all state honors which solidified the type of talent that he is.

The Bowmen were fresh off another outstanding season that saw them fall to eventual state champion Mt View in the state finals. They finished (13-1) and captured another conference title, but they fell short of their ultimate goal of winning back to back state titles.

Powers is a kid with a frame that is necessary to play big time football. He’s very mobile for a big man and could easily pack on 20-30 more pounds and still be athletic enough to do his thing. He accounted for 30 total tackles and 2.5 sacks from his D line position, but he projects as an O lineman.

John lead an offensive line that accounted for 330 yards per game, and 8.6 yards per carry while scoring 67 touchdowns on the ground. 16 different Sherwood athletes scored rushing Tds over the season all the more exemplifying that the line could create massive holes for anyone.

Powers is legit and looks like the top senior lineman in Oregon at the 5a classification level. He has talked to Portland St and a few other schools but for the most part he feels like he is flying under the radar, ” I feel like I could have done more to get myself out there, but I didn’t go to any camps or combines”.

John sports a 3.6 GPA and ran a 4.96 forty yard dash and definitely will be a steal for some school. He is the only 5a lineman on our Top Uncommitted Senior list and he is just getting better. Powers projects as a D1aa- D2 kid that could come in and contribute right away. We look forward to following John’s progress over the next few months and will keep you updated on where he lands.
