Top Wide out Sammie Long Working With Former WSU Star Mike Bush

One of the top wideouts in the Northwest this year promises to be Lakes (Lakewood) WR Sammie Long. While the talented receiver has all of the tools necessary to garner attention from school across the country, he didn’t put up big numbers in 2011, but that had to do with the number of weapons on the Lancers’ roster.

Long finished his junior season with 20 receptions for 266 yards with five touchdowns in his limited touches, but told he had no qualms about taking a back seat to some of the upper-classmen ahead of him.

“I just prepared like I was going to get the ball every time, and I was ready to go when they called my name or threw me the ball,” Long told recently. “It was okay though. I want the ball as much as possible, but I also had a lot of talented guys around me (Cedric Dozier and Levonte Littlejohn to name two) so we had to spread the ball around and those guys were proven playmakers.”

With his long frame (6’4″, 190 pounds), strong hands and outstanding body control, Long’s stock has skyrocketed and he hauled in his first offer back in the fall when Washington extended the junior wideout a full ride.

“It was great getting that first offer and it’s still my only offer right now,” Long said. “I’ve been talking a lot with Oregon, Purdue and Utah as they are both recruiting me pretty hard too.

“Coach (Dave) Miller would know all of the schools that have asked about me, but those are the ones I’ve actually spoken to.”

This offseason, Long has been hard at work on his overall game and plans to take in several team camps and combines this spring and summer.

“I want to get my footwork better,” Long said. “I’ve been working a lot with (former Washington State wide receiver) Michael Bush a lot at the Barton camps and we’ve been working a lot on my technique and getting in and out of my breaks.”

We will have more from Long in the coming weeks and months as he gets further into the recruiting process. Sammie Long Highlights
