A program that has had one of the best run’s of any team in state history through the 80’s and 90’s were the Ashland Grizzlies. The Southern Oregon college town has an abundance of football tradition and are coming back strong after a deep run in the 5A Playoffs last season. Head Coach Charlie Hall has done an outstanding job getting a certain type of belief back into the program and the future looks bright.

The Grizzlies went (8-3) in 2011 losing a hard fought State Semi Final game to 5a power Sherwood 14-3. They continued to get better all season long lead by sophomore QB Danial White and Sophomore Linebacker Mason Montgomery. Part of the excitement is due to the youth factor, and the kids that are coming back over the next couple of seasons. Ashland looks to have a strong perimeter, but will have to do some work on the line. They will battle Marist and most likely Churchill for the Midwestern League Title this up coming season. Have a look at some of Ashland’s top kids.. We know that there are people that we have missed or are coming up through the program so we hope to see you April 1st at Spiegelberg Stadium.

Mason Montgomery 6-0 210 So. LB/OL- One of the best football players to come through the school in a long time. Earned honorable mention all league honors as a freshman, and first team all league LB honors as a sophomore. Lead team in tackles the past two seasons with 51.5 (2010) and 89 (2011) averaging 8.1 tackles per game. Honor roll student, and will be a candidate for Midwestern Conference Defensive Player of the Year next season. Could break multiple career school records before he is done.

Danial White 6-0 170 SO. QB- Outstanding composure for a young kid who has a huge upside and will just get bigger and better. Has good wheels and also competes in Track. White ran for 946 yds and 14 Tds while throwing for 1681 Yds and 16 Tds. You wouldn’t think it at first glance, but the kid is a legit dual threat. Very talented football family.

Jon Volz 6-0 160 Jr. RB/S Earned 2nd Team all league honors at RB rushing for 1160 Yds on 175 carries and 12 Tds (6.5 Ypc).. Will be one of the state’s top backs at the 5a level and will need to stay healthy running behind a more inexperienced line. Outstanding student (3.9) and the Senior leader of the group.

RJ Atteberry 6-0 165 Jr. ATH/ S 2nd Team all league kid from 2011, with 66 total tackles and 4 INT’s taking 1 to the house. He’s a strong DB not afraid to come up and smack you working hard in the weightroom. Look for Atteberry to join the new positional rankings when released shortly.

Austin Chandler 5-10 170 Jr. LB/RB Fast , Strong kid..2nd Team all league OLB, 66 total tackles with a very impressive 8.5 tackles for loss. ran a (4.6) 40 as a freshman. Should be considered one of the top 2 way athletes in the state at the 5a level.

Quaid Walters 5-6 140 Jr. WR/CB Small kid that’s an outstanding route runner and doesn’t drop many balls. Earned Honorable Mention all league honors and ccould have a huge year in 2012.

Tyree Heesaker 5-11 225 So. DL/OL Projects as a D lineman starting every game last season, but will have to step up and be a leader on a young offensive line. Hitting the weight room hard

Nate Carver 5-11 200 So. OL/DL Another young kid that will have to step up big next year and block guys much larger. Currently putting up 315 on the bench, very strong athlete

Carter Glick 5-10 160 So. WR/S Very good overall athlete that could start on either side of the ball, one of the top baseball players for the 2014 class.
