10. CANBY (0-1) L 13-40 vs #6 Tigard @ #7 WA Camas

* Tough day for the cougars who met up with maybe the quickest defensive team in the state… They are young and talented so they will be fine

5A

1. CRESCENT VALLEY (0-1) L 17-21 vs Radford, Hawaii (3-0) H- #9 Putnam

* I still think the Raiders are going to be fine and one of the best teams in the state at the 5a level.. I will reserve further judgement after I see them play some Oregon teams.. Tanner Sanders is the best junior in the state

2. WILSONVILLE (0-1) L 20-30 @ 6A Sprague H- St. Helens

* Like I said prior the most intriguing game state wide.. 6A Sprague is the best team down in the Valley and showed why.. Maybe the state’s top overall 5a player Tanner Shipley ran for 244 yards and 3 Tds on 22 carries. The Wildcats will be fine and are missing starting QB/S Nick Highberger

3. MARIST (1-0) W 41-20 @ Bend H- #5 Sherwood

* QB Kamerun Smith threw 4 Tds, ( 3 to Josh Harper) as the Spartans beat a good Bend team on the road in what looks like could be another very good year for the kids from Eugene

4. MOUNTAIN VIEW (1-0) W 35- 21 @ Lebanon H- #9 6a Century

* The defending State champs beat a Lebanon team that is always tough at home. The Cougars are solid and held on after being up 28-21 at half

* Jake LaCoste could essentially break a lot of records this season. NEI’s top ranked Jr RB went for 340 yards and 7 Tds on 29 carries against one of the state’s top backers in Jack Ezell. LaCoste broke the single season record for rushing yards in a game last year (508) against Silverton and his brother Anthony is Oregon’s 3rd All time leading rusher.

7. CHURCHILL (1-0) W 56-21 vs South Eugene H- Liberty

* We knew Tyler Reid was one of the state’s top junior’s but goodness.. He accounted for 412 all purpose yards (259 rushing, 132 return, 21 receiving) and 7 Tds as his Lancers pounded the Axemen of South Eugene.

8. BEND (0-1) L 20-41 vs Marist @ Silverton

* The Lava Bears are a good football team and have solid senior leaders in Koski, DeGaetano, and senior Kyle Bailey who caught 2 of Koski’s 3 Td passes

9. PUTNAM (0-1) L 14-20 vs Hermiston @ #1 Crescent Valley

* The Kingsmen played without the region’s top WR Deshawn Stephens who was serving a suspension, and couldn’t fend off a feisty Hermiston team that continues to get better

10. SANDY (0-1) L 28-35 @ Sandy H- Wilson

* Sandy QB Justin Adams threw 4 Tds and had 1 Int, but the Pioneers came up short against a very good running Hood River team at home
