One Evergreen State linebacker who is currently flying under most recruiting radars is Standwood’s Jett Whitcher. He’s still waiting on his first offer, but so far this spring things have begun to pick up with contact coming from several programs from different regions across the country.

“I still don’t have any offers, but I have been hearing from Boise State, Utah, Navy, Harvard and Yale,” Whitcher told Northwest Elite Index. “It’s nothing major right now, mostly just letters, but with camps coming up and stuff like that, I’m hoping more schools take notice of what I can do.”

As a sophomore, Whitcher racked up over 70 tackles and was given Honorable Mention All-Wesco and this past season he was named to the All-Wesco Second Team with nearly 90 tackles from his outside linebacker spot.

“I have a head or nose for the football,” Whitcher said. “My eyes are good. I’m able to read things pretty well, like reading the guards, and then I can get to the ball and make the tackle.

“This offseason, one of the big things I am working on is being quicker out of my drops into coverage. I want to be an all-around linebacker who can do it all, so that’s a big thing for me. I’ve been doing a lot of footwork drills and running, just to help get me ahead of things this summer.”

As far as camps are concerned, Whitcher has current plans to hit Washington’s Rising Stars camp and Washington State’s camp as well.

“I’m open to looking into other camps, but right now those are the two I’m planning to go to right now,” Whitcher noted.

Whitcher is already slated to be a team captain during his senior season and he said he and his team have already talked about some goals for this season.

“As far as my team is concerned, I just want us to bond better than we did last year,” Whitcher said. “Last year we were more of a bunch of individuals, but this year I want us to be more like a team and I think we’re on our way to doing that. If we get that fixed and where we want to be, I think the rest will fall into place.”

We’ll continue to keep in touch with Whitcher in the coming weeks and months and we’ll update news on him as it happens.
