Great news from the Narrows League, where 2016 OL Paul Gicewicz of Bellarmine Prep (Tacoma, Wash.) was recently offered by the University of San Diego.

“I am thrilled, it’s a big weight off my shoulders,” Gicewicz told NEI. “Coach [Tanner] Engstrand from USD asked me to call him yesterday. He said that the staff had gotten the chance to evaluate offensive lineman, and that both their offensive line coach and head coach were very impressed with my size and athleticism, and that they believed I would be a great fit at USD.”

The 6-foot-5, 295 pounder, hasn’t visited the school yet, but has done a little homework on the southern California campus.

“I’ve looked at it quite a bit online,” Gicewicz said. “It looks beautiful. One of my coaches played ball at USD, and I will be sure to ask him about the school.”

Gicewicz was a first team All-Narrows performer last season, and carries a 3.94 GPA, while taking AP and honors courses his entire high school career.

“I have never shied away from a difficult class,” Gicewecz says. “This year I am taking AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP US History, and honors English, all the while being a two sport varsity athlete.

“My goal is to use this combination of exceptional football and academics to get into a college that will help me be most successful in life.”

With the high academic standards he has set for himself, Gicewicz has been hearing a lot from some of the higher academic institutions in the country, including Harvard, Yale, Brown, Cornell, Columbia, and Northwestern.

He is also hearing from various high level football programs including the University of Washington and University of Oregon.

Gicewicz will be attending the NW Elite Camp this Friday, and also plans on attending camps at Oregon and Harvard.

We will keep you updated on Gicewicz, as it is only a matter of time before he receives more offers.
