Oregon 6A/5A Top 10 Predictions with Analysis (10/9): By Jordan Johnson

Oregon Predictions

6A Top Ten

David Douglas (0-6) 10 @ #1 Central Catholic (6-0) 59

This one could and should be over early. Central is loaded on both sides of the ball, and the Scots are having a down season. Look for the Rams to be done by half after coming out slow the past few weeks.

#2 Tigard (6-0) 68 @ Hillsboro (2-4) 12

The Tigard reserves will once again get valuable time in a game that should be over quickly. The Tigers are as balanced as they have ever been with Jett Even at quarterback and a legit passing attack.

#3 Southridge (5-1) 28 @ #5 Jesuit (4-2) 26

Probably the game of the night in the Northwest. There will be no love lost here as the Skyhawks have beaten the Crusaders the last two seasons, winning back to back Metro titles. The biggest question mark for Southridge will come in the way of stopping 6-3 225 RB Joey Alfieri, who has run for 940 yards and 12 TD’s over the last 3 weeks. Jesuit will need to implement some type of passing attack if they want to win this ball game as the Skyhawks will key the run all night.

Roseburg (5-1) 20 @ #4 Sheldon (4-2) 44

The Irish have outscored Roseburg 132-27 in their last 3 meetings, but this should be a little more competitive as the Indians are improved. Look for Sheldon to still control this ball game.

#8 Lake Oswego (2-4) 21 @ #6 Clackamas (6-0) 27

This should be another one of the top games state wide. The Lakers have some momentum beating a good Canby team 35-14 last week, but Clackamas is legit and should be able to fend off the traditional power. The matchup of RB Dan Sherrell and Lake O LB Nick Underwood should be all that.

West Linn (3-3) 22 @ #7 Oregon City (5-1) 34

Clack took it to West Linn and injuries could take a toll as the elite brother tandem of QB/WR Hayden and Cody Coppedge went down last week. Oregon City is just getting better and this will be a statement game for them.

South Eugene (2-4) 18 @ #9 North Medford (5-1) 42

The Black Tornado have had one of the most successful turn around seasons in some time, and the group is primarily junior’s. Expect SWC Player of the year candidate Troy Fowler to continue to do his thing as he has accounted for 20 Tds (15 passing, 5 rushing) on the season.

#10 Canby (3-3) 30 @ Lakeridge (4-2) 31

This is going to be another one of the more exciting games state wide as the Cougars are good but a different team without Sam Bodine. The Pacers could win some other conferences but the TRL is brutal. Look for this to go down to the wire.

5A Top Ten

Wilsonville (4-2) 19 @ #1 Sherwood (6-0) 67

The Wildcats are a traditional nemesis of Sherwood so I could see the Bowmen playing their starters and hammering home the victory a little more then usual. Wilsonville is very well coached, but this Sherwood team is one of the best ever at the 5A level.

#10 Dallas (4-2) 16 @ #2 West Albany (5-1) 35

The Dragons sneak into this weeks top 10 as I really like what they bring to the table. They almost upset #6 CV in a 14-6 loss two weeks ago, but West Albany is a different story. The Bulldogs are playing better football and should rap up another MWC title with a win.

#3 Silverton (5-1) 55 @ Woodburn 0

Silverton’s D is legit and prides itself on shutouts. Look for this to be over by half.

(4A) Sutherlin (1-5) 6 @ #4 Ashland (6-0) 58

Sutherlin is usually one of the better 4A schools, but this is a down year and Ashland is one of Oregon’s top 5A teams. Look for the younger Grizzly athletes to get some PT.

North Eugene (0-6) 7 @ #5 Springfield (4-2) 63

I really like this Springfield team as I think they have a legit shot to make a run come playoff time, They beat a good Hermiston (#7) team last week by 20. This one should be over early.

South Albany (2-4) 14 @ #6 Crescent Valley (4-2) 33

The Raiders should handle South, but the true test will come against the likes of Silverton and West Albany who they have played close but haven’t beaten.

#7 Hermiston (4-2) 36 @ Southridge WA (3-2) 20

The Bulldogs blasted Southridge last season 42-13 but they will have to travel this year in what could be a more competitive game. Give a lot a respect to Head Coach Mark Hodges who has scheduled the likes of #1 Sherwood and #5 Springfield.

Franklin (4-2) 19 @ #8 Roosevelt (5-1) 38

Roosevelt has played good football the last 5 weeks in what has been a complete team effort. Franklin has looked good at times, but losses to Jefferson (13-7) make you wonder.

Summit (4-2) 17 @ #9 Mountain View (4-2) 30

The Cougars are playing better football the last few weeks and have legit athletes as they are getting healthy. Summit is a much improved group and could pose problems for a Mt View team not used to being challenged by the Storm.
