2017 Steilacoom (Wa.) WR Marques Hampton made the decision over the weekend to commit to Eastern Washington and he couldn’t be happier about it.

Hampton announced the decision to commit to the Eagles on his Twitter page on Sunday.

“I had been feeling like I was ready to commit to them for a while, but my parents didn’t want me to rush into anything,” Hampton told Northwest Elite Index. “I went over there a couple of weeks ago for a game and I was just feeling like it was the best place for me, so this past weekend, I talked to my parents and told them that I was feeling like it was the right place and it was the school I wanted to be at, so they said to go ahead and commit.”

So with the decision made, Hampton called his main recruiter, receivers coach Nicholas Edwards, and gave him the good news.

“I called him and committed and I could here him running into the other room to tell the coaches,” Hampton recalled. “They were all really happy and excited to have me.

“That really showed me how much they wanted me to come and play for them.”

Hampton chose Eastern Washington over an offer from Montana State and interest from several other schools including Washington, Washington state, Wyoming, Montana, Portland State and Weber State.

So far this season, Hampton is leading his team with 54 receptions for 729 yards and 11 touchdowns and he feels like he’s going out the way he’d hoped.

“My season is going really well so far,” Hampton said. “We’ve got a young quarterback playing right now, so we’ve had to work out the kinks and stuff, but we’re getting much more comfortable with him and we’re playing well.”

Steilacoom will take on Fife this weekend before they enter the playoffs the first weekend of November.
