2016 Kent (Wa.) Meridian WR Emmanuel Daigbe could be close to finding a place to play this coming fall, but there are some things that still need to be ironed out.

“I have been talking to Portland State because they are the only big school that’s still interested in me,” Daigbe told Northwest Elite Index last week. “One of their coaches came to my school and we talked about the path that I’m going to take to Portland State.

“If my classes get approve by the NCAA that I took my freshman year then I will be a ‘portal qualifier’ but if it don’t then I will have to go to community college to make up the classes that I need to be eligible.”

A portal qualifier refers to prospects who are admitted by the school and recognized as a qualifier by the NCAA, however, they must redshirt and focus on their academics during their first year at the school.

Over the past couple of seasons, Daigbe has been one of the more productive wideouts in the state and this past fall he wound up with 54 receptions for nearly 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns and he earned First Team All-SPSL, was named to the Seattle Times All-Area team and he also received Honorable Mention All-State honors as well.

“I felt like I had a good season and we went to the playoffs, which was a goal for us,” Daigbe said. “I showed people I had improved as a football player. I improved a lot on my route-running and with my Football I.Q. and my speed overall.”

At a solidly built 6’0, 185 pounds, Daigbe is a tough matchup for any defensive back.

He has the size and strength to punish smaller defenders and the leaping ability and strong hands to go up and get the ball against bigger defensive backs.

He’s had a lot of interest from Pac 12 and FCS programs, but with some questions regarding his classes and transcripts, schools have backed off a little bit.

Make no mistake, Daigbe is talented enough to play for a Power 5 program and he would be a huge get for a school like Portland State if he’s able to get qualified.

NEI will continue to keep tabs on Daigbe and his progress and we will update news on him as it happens.
